Mountain Bike World Cup

World Cup Mountain Biking

The Outdoor Capital has been host to one of the world's most prestigious mountain bike races for the past nine years, attracting the world's best downhill riders, mountain bike enthusiasts, and the industry's leading sponsors. The multi-award-winning UCI Mountain Bike World Cup takes place across Europe and North America from April to August and the Fort William round in June attracts around 18,000 fans. This has become the highlight of the Outdoor Capital calendar!

The UCI World Cup has come to Fort William every year since 2002 (including the World Championships in 2007) and the event has been awarded the UCI Best Downhill Round on 6 occasions. The award, which is voted for by teams, journalists, riders, UCI officials and sponsors take into account the overall event – including infrastructure, course quality and local facilities.

The competitors love the Nevis Range course it is amongst their favourites in the World Cup circut as well as the warm and enthusiastic atmosphere the crowd always generates here, whatever the weather.  The elite riders can make it down (2.82 km with a vertical descent of 550m) in under 5 minutes - you might take a little longer (the gondola trip is 15 minutes!).

With the 2015 Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup over for this year planning is already underway for 2016's event that will take place on the 4th & 5th of June!
