The weather here changes all the time. A rainy morning can easily transform into a clear day with awe-inspiring views. The weather also varies in different parts of Lochaber. The Great Glen splits Lochaber in two and weather conditions can be very different on each side. Loch Linnhe can be bathed in sunshine while it is raining just over the hills in Loch Leven. The difference between sea level and the mountains is even more marked. It may be a cliche, but you do need to be prepared - but thanks to the wonder of modern sports fabrics, you can enjoy your favourite activities in comfort, whatever the weather!

With so many micro-climates, weather forecasts are only an indication of what lies ahead. The more local the forecast, the better. Most outdoor businesses are affected by the weather and will help 'interpret' the forecast for their area or activity.

Finally, although you may not have heard this - Lochaber does have lovely, sunny days. We're lucky that even in mid-summer the warmth is pleasant and it's not too hot to get active outdoors - whether to bag a Munro, take a gentle walk in the forest, or try a challenging route on your mountain bike. And on those occasional days when the heat is just too much, you're guaranteed to find a lovely spot for a refreshing swim!
