Getting to Scotland
With four international airports, three major ferry ports, plus good rail and road links, getting to Scotland couldn't be easier.
Getting to the Outdoor Capital
Thanks to an extensive road and rail network getting from your arrival point to Fort William and Lochaber in the Scottish Highlands is simple.
Fort William is approximately 2hrs 30 mins' drive from Glasgow, 1 hr 45mins from Inverness and around 3 hours from Edinburgh. Bus services operate from all these cities (www.citylink.co.uk) and there is a regular rail service from Glasgow.(www.firstscotrail.com). An overnight train, the Caledonian Sleeper, departs London Euston 6 nights per week, delivering you to the heart of the Outdoor Capital the next morning.
Getting around the Outdoor Capital
While you’re in Fort William and Lochaber local bus and ferry services (www.rapsons.co.uk) will take you to the main centres. If you want the freedom to do your own thing then renting a car from one of the many car rental companies will allow you to go off the beaten track into the stunning Highland countryside. If you'd rather let someone else do the driving then why not take a taxi (http://www.scotlandtaxis.co.uk/ ).
Remember, although the distances aren’t great, the geography of the West of Scotland can make journey times longer than expected. Make sure you allow time to enjoy the scenery. If you are driving, especially on single-track roads, remember to pull over to allow faster vehicles to pass.
