Glen Spean & The Great Glen

Loch Lochy Glen Spean

The Great Glen and Glen Spean offer some of the most wild, rugged and remote scenery in the area.

The landscape is laced with fast flowing rivers and deep lochs, along with geological and historical treasures just waiting to be discovered.  The Great Glen Way runs 117km from Fort William to Inverness which will allow you to explore the treasures the area has to offer.

Steeped in history and with excellent hill walking thanks to the numerous Great Glen Trails, this area extends from the geologically significant Parallel Roads in Glen Roy, to the recently re-discovered clearance village of Daingean near Invergarry.  There are walks to suit both the experienced and hardcore walkers, as well as those who would prefer a shorter and more leisurely stroll.

Spean Bridge is the hub of this part of the glen and has plenty of accommodation and facilities. From here you can follow Glen Spean out to Roy Bridge to see the magnificent chapel of Cille Choirille, or journey out along the Great Glen past the Commando Memorial with its spectacular views over the Nevis Range of mountains.

The Great Glen is characterised by long, narrow lochs. There are ample opportunities for water sports - from cruising the Caledonian Canal, to water-skiing on Loch Oich. Loch Arkaig offers a glimpse of true Scottish wilderness. At Loch Arkaig you can see where the World War 2 Commandos trained, and visit the beautiful Cha-aig falls where ‘Rob Roy’ was filmed.
