Extreme White Water Rafting

Extreme White Water Rafting

Fort William doesn’t just have Grade 3/4 rivers on offer. There’s also grade 4/5 rivers, if you’re after a real adrenaline rush!

Active Highs White water rafting in Fort William on the River Garry is an exhilarating experience and there are 6 big rapids such as Double or Quits, Surfs Up, Hey Diddle Diddle, and the tunnel of love. Big bouncy waves, drops, stoppers and plenty of surfing is the order of the day check out the video & images below to see the action for yourself! Other rivers that are used for white water rafting near Fort William but rain is required to get them into condition. When the dam releases water from April to October the River Garry is a classic grade 3 and 4 white water experience, it’s that good we run it twice per trip.

Vertical Descents are the only adventure company in Scotland who run these rivers, the River Moriston, the River Orchy and the River Roy are all monsters in their own right – each with unique features but all with big white water! Steep drops, hydraulics, big waves and much more!

The River Moriston is a class 5 creek river, regularly kayaked by locals and extreme kayakers alike. It’s dam released, so there’s guaranteed white water every week! There are two main sections, the upper and lower Moriston. The upper has 5 metre waterfalls, fast furious rapids and it’s arguably the best rafting in the UK! The lower has big slides and long continuous rapids. Combined, they give you one of Fort William’s most full on experiences!

The River Orchy is a rain dependent river, so it can be rafted at any time of year. It boasts some of the biggest white water waterfalls in the UK and is a long full day river with epic grade 4/5 rapids. It includes everything from big standing waves, big slides and high volume white water. If you’re staying south of Fort William, this River is perfectly located for an extreme day out!

The River Roy is also a full day adventure with a real “journey” feel to it. The day starts with grade 2/3 rapids and then feeds into the River Spean (grade 3) and turns into a grade 4/5. It’s great for anyone who wants an epic day out, but can’t quite stomach the Moriston or Orchy!
